There
is a need to encourage young African American males to stay in school, get
good jobs, raise solid families and stay out of gangs, drugs and other
illegal activities. According to local and national studies, African American
males have the lowest achievement rate out of all ethnic and gender groups,
and there has become an endless cycle of young men who grow up believing that
if they aren’t a basketball or football star, they can’t succeed.
What can we do to change this mindset? We explore some options on this episode
of AAR.
Special guests include Rev. James Ford, youth minister at Allen Chapel & Vernon Hilton, President of Young Men of Macedonia, a group whose mission is to empower today’s young African American males to become tomorrow’s leaders.
