End of Life Decisions

For most people, the subject of death is not a common topic of conversation. We do not want to think of how we will die or when we will die. We do not want to think about making end of life decisions for ourselves or our family members. But we need to. The questions we need to ask ourselves are where do we want to spend our final hours, do we want to be kept alive as long as possible with whatever medical means available, what are our physical, emotional and spiritual needs, do our loved ones know how we feel about these choices and do we know how they feel?

Recent advances in biomedical technology have made it possible to prolong human life in ways undreamed of by past generations. We have more choices today than ever before. Even though we may find the topic of death morbid and depressing, it needs to be dealt with now because many people have differing beliefs. Guests on this episode include Marty Johnson, Founder of Hospice Care of America and Dr. Charles DeHaan of MD at Home, who is certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
