Homelessness

What if suddenly you had no place to call home? Nothing of your own except the clothes on your back? No furniture including a bed, no reliable food source, no clean clothes? Sounds unimaginable to most of us, right? Well, every day homeless people in Rockford and around our world face these issues and are left in despair.
Some would shun, ridicule and label the homeless as lazy & unmotivated without ever getting to know them or hear their personal life stories.

However, in this episode of All around Rockford, we meet an organization that has taken the time to learn the stories of the homeless, to help these people overcome the barriers that keep them trapped and to bring them to their full potential. The organization is The Carpenter’s Place of Rockford, IL. We meet Al Barsema, Founder and Exec. Director of The Carpenter’s Place and Nancy Halverson, Director of Operations, who help us to better understand people who are homeless and not judge their characters before hearing their personal stories. They also remind us to be grateful for the things that we have…
