Ministries that Meet People's Most Basic Needs

Shelter Care Ministries has been serving both homeless families and people living with mental illnesses as a 501 (c) 3 non profit agency since 1985 - although Emmanuel Episcopal started serving these populations in 1982. The mission is to support those in need while they acquire the resources they need to stabilize their lives and move toward self-sufficiency. Guests from Shelter Care include Cheryl Rogers, Exec. Director of Shelter Care Ministries and Todd Bonzi, Director of Development.

Other than homeless, many families and individuals around Rockford find themselves hungry. Where do they turn to for food? One place is the local food pantries. Jackie Noegel, director of Boone County’s largest Food Pantry, and Gene Johnston, Volunteer, joins us for this portion of the program.

Lastly, there are quite a few non-profit agencies, churches and individuals in Rockford that are looking to help those in need. How do people maximize their time and donations, best serve the city, and not duplicate efforts? There exists an organization that aims to fulfill these needs. Mary Pulliam, Executive Director of Love in the Name of Christ of Greater Rockford, tells us more about it.
