There
are over 90,000 people in this country waiting for organ transplants. Sadly,
18 people will die today because of the shortage. Fortunately, 80 others will
receive the gift of life and in Illinois, donating and the procurement of organs
and tissue has become much simpler.
If given the
choice, most of us would help save another person’s life,
yet when it comes to the issue of donating our body parts—we are undecided.
On this episode of All Around Rockford, we hope to empower you to finally
make that decision. We’ll bust some myths and hear from Allison Wallace,
a representative from the Gift of Hope donor organization. We'll also meet
Bobbi Smith, a Rockford mom who lost 2 grandchildren to liver failure, and
whose daughter died, but gave the gift of sight to two women. Bobbi and her
husband Charles, a retired physician, started the “Red Shoe Run” to
raise donor awareness.
