Sexual Assault
We all know there is much evil and violence in the world, and that the crime
of sexual assault is reported over a hundred times every hour, but what we don’t
know is how many more sexual assaults go unreported every day. Many times, it’s
difficult for the victim to speak up because the person is devastated, ashamed,
repulsed and in denial. While the victim doesn’t have any tangible object
taken from her (or him), there’s a part of one’s inner being that
is stolen. That person’s self-respect, dignity and life are shattered.
Putting the pieces back together is not easy, especially if the victim doesn’t
have a good support system.
On
this episode of All Around Rockford , we talk about getting the help and support
you need, overcoming pain and fear, and protecting yourself and the ones you
love. Our guests are Julie Barthels, Clinical Director at Rockford Sexual Assault
Counseling and Maureen Mostacci, Executive Director of Rockford Sexual Assault
Counseling.
